Sustainability

Line D45

We believe that luxury travel should create a positive impact. We aim to be radical in our approach to travel – generating positive change as well as reducing negative effects – while offering high-touch, creative trips for the most discerning of travelers. With decades of experience in the industry, we´ve seen how the benefits of travel can transform a destination, providing jobs and resources, while protecting to cultural and natural wonders.

We recognize that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. Our team will continue to innovate, hold ourselves accountable, make mistakes, and seek solutions as part of our commitment to being a leader in positive-impact travel.

Our Approach to Giving Back

WONDER

Our passionate team designs tailor-made, luxury journeys from a base of innovation and relentless exploration. We don´t want to just tell you how enriching Brazil is, we want you to experience it for yourself. Through making personal connections with Brazil´s communities, ecosystems, and natural life, we seek to spark a sense of wonder that can change perspectives and ignite an impulse to protect our people and unique places.

AWARENESS

While bringing enormous benefits, Journey Brazil also acknowledges that travel has its consequences through transport emissions and participation in certain activities. We ask our collaborators about their sustainable practices, working with selected partners that measure their impact, as well as prioritizing hotels, lodges and modes of transportation based on their approach. We also highlight the efforts and achievements of our partners in order to inform others about the possibilities for responsible travel.

ACTION

We love connecting our travelers with hands-on experiences that contribute to the wellbeing of people and nature, from meeting up with local conservationists and visiting biological research stations, to planting trees as part of reforestation programs.

Who Is

Bosque Vivo

Bosque Vivo is the first high altitude forest rehabilitation project in Brazil. The foundation is passionate about restoring these forests to their natural state and raising awareness about their importance.

High altitude forests are life-giving due to their crucial role in the hydrological cycle, replenishing and filtering the water in aquifers and streams that supply drinking water and become lowland rivers.

The Bosque Vivo Foundation is divided into four main projects:

August 2023

The next phase of construction has been approved for Aula Bosque, a roof terrace in the forest that will be used to host activities and hands-on experiences for kids and adults. The aim is to foster a deeper understanding of the forest while cultivating an appreciation and duty of care for it through firsthand connection. Journey Brazil´s donations will go towards the costs of construction and materials.

September 2023

One of our goals with Bosque Vivo has been to return the Journey Forest back to its natural state - after 50 years of cattle grazing - to restore the ecosystem and invite wildlife back home. A bulldozer came to recreate the area´s original watershed, the stream was sealed off, and the original pond has returned. Within weeks, several types of wildlife have been spotted, including the incredible sighting of a coyote.

October 2023

Journey´s Director of Marketing, Jessica, and her husband visited Giuliana and Pierre. Taking part in the signature experience we offer our travelers, they got to listen to Bosque Vivo´s story and learn about their projects firsthand, plant trees in the Journey Forest and see wildlife at the recovering watershed. They also got a sneak peek at what our donations will be used for next: facilities for environmental education at Aula Bosque.

December 2023

The construction of the nursery is in its final phases! Gazebos have been purchased and installed near the wetland, enabling Bosque Vivo to host groups and conduct workshops on environmental education and nature art, with the aim of inspiring a meaningful connection to nature and the drive to protect it. The team has spotted the wild cat species, jaguarundi, in the area for the first time ever as well as observing an increase in birds, insects, frogs and lizards in the wetland.
