Villa Amazônia

Manaus, Amazon

Tucked into Manaus’ historical center, Villa Amazônia is a great base to rest and explore. Historic features like the hotel’s façade, reception and restaurant blend with minimal tropical design that balances comfort and style. An interior leafy garden and natural stone swimming pool offer a calm oasis in the heart of the city.

Each of the thirty guest rooms look over the garden from private balconies, designed with contemporary highlights like walk-in rain showers, HD TV’s and tasteful reading chairs. The property’s onsite restaurant, Fitz Carraldo Bistro adds a culinary edge, serving up a fusion of Amazonian flavors and international dishes.

Ideal for: Urban comfort, Amazon adventure, boutique with character.

We love how Villa Amazônia houses the beautifully restored remains of a 19th century mansion, tapping into the area’s Rubber Age history. Plus, its location steps away from the grand Amazon Theater lets you explore Manaus' cultural gems with ease. If you like a relaxing soak on vacation, choose one of the Premium rooms for their deep, freestanding bathtubs.

When we felt like some relaxation was in order we dipped in a choice of three on-site soaking pools (especially nice after a morning of hiking), whose restorative waters are naturally heated by Arenal Volcano.

Villa Amazônia underwent a meticulous restoration, saving it from collapse while enhancing the surrounding area and showcasing local traditions in its interior design. A garden was reconstructed with native Amazonian species to highlight the local flora and help reduce temperatures through large-scale vegetation cover. Solar panels power the water heating system, significantly reducing energy and fossil fuel consumption.

Plastic bottles and straws are no longer used or sold in the restaurant, bar, or minibars, and plastic waste bags have been replaced by kraft paper alternatives. Local products and supplies are prioritized, supporting cultural traditions and minimizing transportation impacts. Free filtered drinking water is available for guests and biodegradable amenities in dispensers drastically cut plastic waste.

The property practices selective waste separation, with recyclables sent to community cooperatives. Energy-efficient inverter refrigeration systems and LED lighting are used to reduce energy consumption. Wages are set above market rates, and there is a focus on hiring local staff to improve both the internal environment and the local job market.
