Brazil Wildlife Adventure Across the Amazon and the Pantanal
Two of Brazil's great wilderness ecosystems, back to back: the blackwater channels of the Amazon and the open wetlands of the southern Pantanal.
DAYS: 9
This journey uncovers two magnificent, and very different, ecosystems. At Anavilhanas, set on the banks of the Rio Negro across from one of the world's largest river archipelagos, days are spent canoeing through flooded igapó forest, cruising channels in search of pink river dolphins, hiking dryland trails and heading out after dark to scan the riverbanks for caimans, sloths and night birds. The journey then moves south to the Pantanal, where Caiman Lodge sits within 53,000 hectares of open wetland and the wildlife-watching shifts gear: 4×4 safaris, a night drive, sunset by canoe, and a full day alongside the Onçafari team, whose jaguar conservation program operates from the lodge.
