Heritage, Art & Beaches from Rio to Bahia

From Rio's hilltop monuments and modernist gardens to Salvador's African heritage and the natural beauty of Trancoso’s shores.

DAYS: 11

DESTINATIONS:
This journey moves through three expressions of Brazil, each with its own character. In Rio, ascend to Christ the Redeemer in the early morning quiet, trace colonial and belle époque history through the city's downtown streets, and visit Sítio Burle Marx, the former estate of Brazil's most influential landscape architect, before cooling off on the protected beaches of the West Zone. Fly inland to Inhotim, where contemporary art pavilions sit among some of the most extensive botanical gardens in South America. Then head to Salvador to walk Pelourinho's cobblestones and taste a moqueca in a city shaped by African, Indigenous and Portuguese heritage. The journey ends at Trancoso, with a day in car-free Caraíva and time to relax into the coastal lifestyle on Itapororoca Beach.
