The Golden Lion Tamarin Association

By the 1970s, fewer than 200 golden lion tamarin monkeys remained in the wild. Today, thanks to decades of work by the project, populations are alive and growing, yet still vulnerable and needing protection. The team's efforts continue: reconnecting the last fragments of the Atlantic Forest so the tamarins, and the ecosystem they depend on, can thrive. We're proud to stand beside them.

Nearly 5,000 golden lion tamarins now roam the forests outside Rio, downlisted from critically endangered to endangered as numbers recovered. Six years of negotiation delivered one of the project's hardest-won victories: a wildlife bridge, a canopy corridor crossing the federal road that once divided the tamarins' territory.
