Better than Carnival

Hear us out on this one! While Rio’s annual carnival is a life-affirming experience that’s rightfully at the top of many travelers’ dream list, there is a way to live the spectacle and soak up the celebratory vibe without the chaos, road and restaurant closures, and high-minimum-night stays. We’re talking about the Champion’s Parade. A week after carnival, the winning samba school and the top five runners-up perform one more time at the huge Sambadrome Stadium in the heart of the city. This is arguably our favorite night of carnival.

Such an extraordinary showcase of culture through song and dance is more than just a party, the schools tirelessly practice and prepare for the competition during the entire year. Each performance has a theme and is judged on several elements, from melodies and visual appeal to the teamwork of the percussion band and the flag bearer’s ability. The mesmerizing songs, floats, costumes, and choreography are a testament to innovation and originality, with meticulous craftsmanship and artistry poured into every detail. This year’s Champion’s Parade is on Saturday 8th March – if you’re ready for some soul-stirring samba, chat to our team who’ll help to find you the perfect hotel in Rio and book a top guide for the event.

Insider Tip: Music lovers should be sure to check for concert listings during their stay. Rio has historically attracted big productions with the likes of Madonna and The Rolling Stones playing at Copacabana Beach. Rumor has it that Lady Gaga may make an appearance in 2025…watch this space!

Lençóis Maranhenses’ Surreal Natural Beauty

This is one of Brazil’s most extraordinary natural landscapes, located off the beaten path in the northeastern region. Lençóis Maranhenses’ combination of pristine white dunes and shimmering lagoons offers a rare and otherworldly beauty. These dunes, which can reach heights of up to 40 meters (130 feet), were formed over thousands of years as wind carried sand inland from the coast. During the rainy season, water collects between the sandy shapes, creating thousands of turquoise and emerald lagoons.

Such dreamlike scenery makes for captivating exploration, whether navigating the sands in a 4×4, trekking, paddleboarding, or swimming. We love this destination as an alternative beach break! Surrounding fishing villages like Atins host charming guest houses that have a prime spot at the gateway to the National Park – we love relaxing in the garden-encircled chalets of La Ferme de Georges post-adventure. The best time to visit is between May and August, when the lagoons are at their fullest.

Jaguar Spotting in the Pantanal

Brazil is home to the world’s largest tropical wetland! The Pantanal boasts an incredibly, biologically diverse ecosystem, sustained by seasonal floods in the rainy season, creating a mosaic of forests, savannas, rivers, and marshes. This amazing natural habitat opens the door to some of the best wildlife safaris in South America. We love helping our guests to explore one of the last great natural frontiers. The dry summer months are ideal for spotting magnificent jaguars, which can often be seen during the day, a rarity compared to other jaguar habitats.

A stay at Caiman Lodge is hands down the best way to experience the mighty Pantanal, where you truly live nature. We love how the property proactively works to conserve the incredible destination it calls home, from land preservation to jaguar and macaw programs. Such a wonderful hotel comes with high demand! Availability is already scarce for June to October – get in touch with our travel planners to get Caiman Lodge booked in now.

Insider Tip: Some spaces may free up at a later date when room holds potentially drop due to the lodge’s payment policy, so it’s worth asking us to check if you miss it the first time around.

Luxury in the Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon River and its tributaries form the largest river system on Earth, supporting both wildlife and local communities. The immense rainforest is home to an unparalleled diversity of life – 10% of the world’s known species – including jaguars, pink river dolphins, macaws, and over 40,000 plant species. We love connecting or travelers with the natural wonder of this remarkable destination, as well as with members of indigenous cultures to learn about rainforest survival and medicinal herbalism. Our favorite ways to stay in the Amazon for an elevated experience are at Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge or on a 169-foot private yacht

Anavilhanas is currently the only B-Corp-certified lodge in the Amazon, which means it actively works to conserve its surroundings while minimizing negative environmental impact. We love the property’s location on the Río Negro, cozy jungle vibe, and 360° panoramas over the forest. Enjoy a swim from the floating bar or relax on the deck, contemplating serene views. Thanks to the river’s unique high acidity, mosquitoes are few and far between, which is also ideal for the luxurious yacht option. Imagine cruising through the Amazon exploring natural wonders, sitting out on the deck sipping cocktails, and dining on gourmet meals whipped up by your own private chef. Get these first choices locked in now and start counting down the days to your adventure – they typically sell out a full three to five months in advance for August, September, and November bookings!
